Can I make a subsitute for corn starch from something else like potatos?

I am out of corn starch what is a good substitute that I can make? Could I use potato water cooked down? Would this add a noticeable potato taste in the recipe?

Try flour or rice flour. I am trying to make my own rice flour with a small blender. So far it seems like maybe i should have used a coffee grinder instead of the blender. I'll report back with results when i finish or give up.
